This video is of a Green turtle, I think it is a Green turtle. lol. Anyway, the video was apparently taken near Mike’s Reef (Ridge and Sea Viking Wreck) off New Providence Island. This dive site consists of a large dense patch reef with a variety of hard and soft corals in the amazingly clear waters of The Bahamas. This reef is home to many tropicals, School Masters, Nassau Grouper, Lobster, Stingrays and Caribbean Reef Sharks and, apparently, turtles.
Green turtles are an endangered species because they have so many predators – including humans. Even though a female can lay over 200 eggs ata time, some will not hatch, and many will be eaten. Even if they do hatch, the baby turtles get eaten crossing the sand on their way to the ocean, or once they get there. Predators in the sand include ghost crabs, ants, snakes, gulls, opossums, rats, and vultures. There are many more in the water such as sharks, dolphin fish, kingfish, needlefish, and bottle-nosed dolphins. So only a few will survive, if any. If the they do survive, they can live to be over 100 years old.
